Application Information for Ag Econ Graduate Programs        

We are glad that you are interested in the graduate program in Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University Please send all supporting materials to the Department of Agricultural Economics. Follow the instructions on the application form for the Graduate School.

·         Your application should include a cover letter (with a request for financial assistance if needed), a carefully prepared two-page statement of objectives for graduate study, and a current resume.

·         Have three references send a letter of recommendation. Please include current contact information (e-mail and phone) so references can be checked. (If you have an M.S. degree, letters should be from someone familiar with your M.S. program.)

·         The GRE is required. GRE scores are valid for 5 years. Please have the scores sent to us - the institution code for K-State is 6334.

·         Have each college or university you attended send an official transcript to us. We also need evidence of your B.S. degree such as a diploma. If the transcript is not in English, please provide translation. If the transcript does not use a 4 point grading system, provide information so grades can be converted to an A,B,C,D,F scale.

·         Shortly after all your materials are received, we will inform you of your application status.

·         If you are neither a U.S. citizen nor a permanent resident of the U.S. you must include with your application an international cashier’s check or money order for $55.00 payable to the Kansas State University Graduate School (NO PERSONAL CHECKS). The University does not allow us to process files without the application fee. The application fee for U.S. citizens and permanent residents is $40.00.  Application fees are non-refundable. 

·         If your native language is not English, you must furnish TOEFL scores. A minimum of 550 (written exam), 213 (computer exam), or 79 (IBT – internet based) is required for admission. TOEFL is waived if you have graduated from an English speaking university within the last 2 years. If the TOEFL score is below 600 (written exam), 250 (computer exam), or 100 (IBT) you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in written and oral English at enrollment time. TOEFL scores are valid for two years.

·         If you are an international student complete the affidavit of financial support form. We have a limited number of teaching and research assistantships. Your file cannot be processed without a financial statement completed and signed.

The applicant must provide evidence that $27,315 (U.S.) in financial support is available and that adequate funding is available for subsequent years. The applicant should sign in Section 1 of the affidavit of financial support form and a bank official should sign in Section 3 of the form. Certificates of balance which only show the amount of money on deposit cannot be accepted.

If an official from the sponsor’s financial institution is not willing to sign on the affidavit of financial support form, the official will need to provide a letter stating that the sponsor is in financial position to provide for expenses of the student applicant in the amount of at least $27,315 (this could also include a statement that the sponsor has been a satisfied customer with the bank for at least one year).
